Made it to 33!

Here is a link to my 42 Challenge page. It's been great fun and I'm probably going to sign up for 2011.

Wrapping Up 2010

I know this is a little late, but I just wrote my wrap-up for the 2010 edition of the Challenge; it's posted on my blog here. Didn't quite make it to 42 events/experiences this year, but I definitely enjoyed trying. Thanks, Becky, for hosting this - it's been one of my favorites of all the many (too many) reading challenges I've been involved in.

Want to 42 Again? Again?

42 Challenge (for 2011)
Officially starts January 1, 2011
Officially ends December 3, 2011

Your mission--if you choose to accept it--is to read, watch, listen, and (possibly) review 42 sci-fi related items.

What counts? Short stories, novellas, novels, radio show episodes, television show episodes, movies, graphic novels, comic books, audio books, essays about science fiction, biographies about sci-fi authors, etc. Adapted or abridged works are okay as well.

Keep an ongoing list of your 42 either here on this site (just leave your email address in the comments) or on your own site (just leave a link to your list in the comments). Your list doesn't have to include links to your reviews. But it can if you like. Reviews are not required.

If you want to join the challenge, leave a comment on this post.
If you want to be able to contribute to this site, then leave your email address. (If you don't want to contribute, then that's not necessary.)
If this will be your second or third year, and you'd like to continue on, then leave a comment to 'renew' your participation.
If this is your first year participating, it would be helpful (see below) if you could say this is your first year.
MY goal is to (eventually) add all participants to the site's blog roll.
If you would like to be added to the blog roll AND your blog/site isn't linked in your profile, please leave a link to your site.

#3 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on DVD

So after watching the film a dozen times (no, I'm not exaggerating) with my kids on DVD, I've decided to count it for the science fiction challenge. I have a long post on my blog.

Firefly

Last night we watched the pilot episode of Firefly, the "space western" series created by Joss Whedon for the Fox Network. Fox ended up canceling the show after 11 of 14 episodes were aired. I think the show is brilliant, dark and at times very funny. Why was this show canceled? It just reconfirms my belief that most American TV executives are stupid.

If you haven't seen Firefly you are really missing something.

#2 Nightwings by Robert Silverberg

I finished by second science fiction review for 2010, Nightwings by Robert Silverberg. It was originally three novellas but was later republished in book form as a three chapter novel. I read it in novel form.

Desolation Road ~Ian McDonald

I have just completed my first read in this years 42 Challenge. It was Ian McDonald's unique and interesting book, Desolation Road. You can read my review of it here.

More for my list!

23. Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Jules Verne: quite frankly I was disappointed! The narrator (the nephew was an irritating wimp who never stopped whinging'. If I'd been the professor, I'd have ditched the brat as soon as I could!

24. Avatar 3D: A visually beautiful film. The night scenes of Pandora were spectacular!

25. Fringe: I really liked this series and it has some great actors in it.

26. Doctor Who - The end of Time: I'm sad to see the end of David Tennant's Doctor, but the return of the Master and the Time Lords, well, what more can you ask for! :) I'm hoping that the Eleventh Doctor will rediscover his joy in life because the Tenth Doctor got so sad and lonely it was heartbreaking sometimes.

27. Flashback - Episodes 1 - 7. An interesting scenario, the whole world blacks out for three minutes and most people have a vision of their future in six months time. I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

28. Sanctuary - Season 2. They're have been some great episodes in this season. I particularly liked Magnus's trip to the future :)

29. Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. A full on action start to the film left me a little lost at times, but it was an entertaining way to fill a couple of hours.

30. 2010 Supernova. Don't even bother watching this, it was boring. Earth is in danger from the blast from a star going supernova. Amazing what you'll watch over the holidays.
